How to scale DAoC UI

TL;DR: Increase your Display settings Scale and layout to 125% or greater. Instructions and screenshots below. Please note this is a global setting and will impact the scale and layout of every application on your computer.

Background: If you play(ed) Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC) and were curious on how to make the user interface (UI) scale up, then you landed in the right place! The UI in the game client itself was mostly hard coded by the developer team back in the early 2000’s. There are custom UI mods that allow different maps and skins, but due to the hard coding in the game client, the custom (or Atlantis UI for that matter) UIs cant change things like the paperdoll or inventory or bars. Fast forward 19 years from the game’s release and in a modern operating system such as Windows 10, Microsoft baked in something into the display settings called “Scale and layout”. Scale and layout usually defaults to 100% of the native screen resolution of your monitor. We can leverage this capability for a legacy game client such as DAoC to increase the scaling of the UI while maintaining a full screen gaming experience. I prefer the 125% scale and layout setting, as its a sweet spot for me with a 1080P monitor. I’m assuming if you are using 1440P or 4K you may want to test 125% and 150% scale and layout. I’m happy to post screenshots from those resolutions if anyone wants to provide them. Please note this is a global setting and will impact the scale and layout of every application on your computer. If you want to turn it back off after you play the game, you will need to reverse the instructions and set the Scale and layout to 100% or whatever your “normal” scale is.
